Electronic app

Parents of children at Little Ladybirds can now receive real-time information about their daughter or son following the launch of a new electronic app.

The secure app enables parents to view a range of information about their child whilst they are at the nursery, including activities they have undertaken, observations made as part of the learning journal staff prepare, what meals they ate and how many bottle feeds/nappy changes they had.

One of the most popular features of the app is the ‘what I did today’ function which involves staff uploading images of the children doing things in the nursery, e.g. reading a book, playing outside or learning French.

Little Ladybirds Manager Jennifer Thompson said: “We trialled the app initially with a few parents and this proved successful, so from October, it is now available to all parents.

“The feedback we have received from parents has been very positive. They like the fact they can receive images/updates about their children during the day and can use the message function to leave comments/questions.

“They can check anytime of the day to see what their children have been doing, how much they have eaten, how many times their nappy has been changed or, if they are toilet training, how often they have used a potty.

“We used to provide this information in paper format and whilst we are still able to print it out for anyone unable to access the app, having an e-based system is much more environmentally friendly because we are using less paper and ink.”
